About

I’m Emmie. I’m a college student, English geek, one-time artist, and a collector of strange vintage hats. As a wee young lass, I had, at various points, aspirations to be a dog, a gymnast (but only every two years when the Olympics were on TV), and a child prodigy. None of these really worked out. Instead, after I graduated from a fabulous elementary school, ended up at a rather stuffy all girls high school. While there, I dreamed of moving to Canada and working as a light and sound technician for theater performances and rock concerts while having a series of doomed love affairs. Thankfully, this plan fared about as well as my canine aspirations.

I left high school to unschool, audited college classes, lived on a hippie commune, and considered becoming a graphic novel artist and author. I met my boyfriend at a basement get-together of anime nerds, but didn’t start dating him for another two years until we were both over the anime scene and worrying about college. We meant to leave it at a senior year fling, but we sort of forgot to break up because we were too busy being fond of one another.

I went to a hippie college for an art degree. One semester in, I realized that I am simply terrible at living with vegans and hippies, a lesson you’d think I’d have learned at the commune. I transfered schools, and once in the right environment got really into academia, and traveled to Vienna, Switzerland, Italy, Munich, Turkey, London, and Oxford.

When I’m not studying my ass off to get into grad school, I read, paint, and dress up in crazy costumes for parties or just to amuse myself downtown. My career goal in this phase of my life is to be a Victorian lit professor– we’ll see if that plan fares better than the other crazy ideas I’ve had.
